It’s that time of the year again…

In which I hate my webdesign like the pest.

Expect changes.

Or not. It might be I start playing around and end up in the same place than before. That happened more than once. I’d really love to have some webdesign made by a pro whose work I love, but there’s no way I can justify that expense for something that’s basically a toy.

New Layout!

I’m not quite done setting it up yet, though, so there will be minor changes here and there depending on when the mood strikes me.

(On that note, since this thema also has tags, I’ll go back and tag some older posts, whenever the mood strikes me.)

All in all, I like this template a lot, though, what are you thinking?

tumblrize!

First things first: I caved in and got myself a tumblr account.

The thing seems nifty and is fun to use, so yay! It’s kinda a long form twitter with photos, which on its own is very enjoyable.

Yeah, the crossposting doesn’t work as well as advertised. Bugger that. :O

Second:

I set it so that I can easily crosspost all stuff I write on here to my tumblr – but I do not know yet which and how many posts I’ll crosspost. The art stuff is a given, and for the rest… Well, I decide on case by case basis.

Third:

Since the tumblr also autotweets, I deactivated the blog’s autotweeting.  Should a post not go to the tumblr, I’ll just poke the blog to notify my twitter.

Friggin Spam, redux

Since Akismet got me way to many false positives without even admitting it had a false positive after I painstakenly dragged the comments out of the spamfolder, I’ve killed that plugin in favour for Defensio. Akismet has pissed me off, especially since help can’t be found anywhere or is horribly outdated. And since false positives are more annoying than spam itself, I’m going to try giving it the curb.

So I’ll give Defensio a trial run of a month or two and then we’ll see how well it works.

Anyway, there’s a second thing I’ve changed: Since spammers prefer to target older posts, I will automatically close comments on all posts older than thirty days. That will curb the sheer ammount of spam this blog gets and it’s rare I get comments on anything but the latest five, ten posts.

I hope that will help.

Socially engineered spam…

needs to go and die in a fire.

Only sure way to keep it away is to trash all comments with suspicious links or page adresses, which just once again stresses the importance to have a decent url.

In case any of your comments get caught, I’m sorry. Collateral Damage, you know?
