A Tempest in a Tea Pot

First off, please read this:  Why James Chartrand Wears Woman Underpants.

You’re back? Good. James’ a good writer, isn’t she?

Well, like expected, the whole story made a huge splash in the internet community. It even made news. I’m a it late to the party, but still, I have one, two things to say about this whole thing:

  1. Yes, gender bias still exists. Shocker.
And so does racismn and all the other biases against religions, cultures or political oppinions and litrature preferences.
  2. Even the nicest, most benevolent person in the world will have prejeduces and s/he’ll most likely not even now it. The culture we grow up in leaves its mark, and similiar like we have a tough time to see the air we breath, we have a tough time seeing our cultural perceptions.
  3. Professional victimes (no matter who they are) are upset at someone succeeding and happily jump into the fray. The justification differs from person to person, but the siren song of “How DARE s/he!” stays the same.

And yet I’m so not surprised.

There’s a reason, they’ve printed “JK Rowling” and not “Joanne K Rowling” onto the Harry Potter books when the first one was published, you know? Or why male romance writers often have female pseudonyms. Or why a David has a much easier time landing a job interview than a Gülçan. There are thousends of little ways to put people into boxes, just to make dealing with our increasingly complex world a little bit easier.

And in the end the whole thing won’t change much. A few people got confrontet with their assumptions and biases, a few got upset and lashed out and another few started to think.

But I’m just glad about the many “You go, girl” remarks – that, at least, is a sign that things are slowly changing.

Fleeing Words

It happens again and again.

I have a real good idea for a blog post, I already here the words resounding in my skull, I sit down to write this thing in a fit of perfect euphoria and…

Nothing happens.

The words and sentences were floating infront of my inner eye just a moment ago; they’re gone now. And trying to still grab them is futile.

No Success.

It’s annoying, because  I like blogging. Writing means I find out what I think about a topic, or what I am doing about it. And this lack of words isn’t caused by a lack of ideas;  I knew what I wanted to write about and I even had the first ideas how to express it.

Those fleeing words remind me at my fear of the empty Canvas: So much potential and I really do not want to screw it up. But not doing anything is screwing-it-up, too, and so failure is the only option.

Maybe I’ll be able to present a proper post next Friday and you know what? I’ll just count this one as a post regarding [p2p type="id" value="107" text="the List of Doom"] – I did push that annoying “Publish” button afterall.

And sometimes writing about not-being-able to write is a valid topic too.

Hi and welcome back!

As you see this webpage is so fresh, the construction’s still going on and the paint’s still damp.

So what happened?

My webpresences have been privately hosted for two years, but now a hardware failure put a stop to this. *sniff*  My former host has been  very helpful in transferring my domains1, but small but significant parts of my pages were specifically tailored to the conditions on my old server. I had to decide between spending ages fixing the broken plugins and recreating links or starting fresh.

Well, I like new beginnings.

And what’s next?

Right now I’m concentrating on fixing the skin and gallery here on Imaginary Skies – Bilingual blogs need alot of tweaks in the details, even if there are pretty good plugins to take care of the backend by now.

Trarr.net will need even more work and I’m not ready to tackle it just yet. I’m making good progress with the page design and the comic itself, I just don’t know how long it will ultimately take. You’ll see.

Thanks for reading us so far and see you around. I’ve got lots of plans. Maybe I can even execute them.

Footnotes:

  1. I’m hosted professionally now. One day I’m going to have to post a rant about German internet laws and the disgrace of transfering urls, but not today.
